Luggage transfer and travel insurance on the Camino
How much it costs to send your pack stage by stage, how it works and which insurance makes sense.
Walking without weight is not cheating: thousands of pilgrims with back or knee problems, or simply wanting to enjoy the walk, do it.
How luggage transfer works
You leave your pack before 8 at the albergue reception with a tag (name, phone and destination) and the payment in an envelope. By the afternoon it is at your next accommodation. Services run on the Francés from Saint-Jean, on the Portugués from Porto and on the Inglés from Ferrol.
- Price: €6–8 per stage and bag in 2026. Passes for the last 100 km cost €30–40.
- Limit: 15 kg per bag. No delivery to Xunta public albergues, save specific arrangements.
- Booking: by WhatsApp or website the day before; in summer, two days ahead.
Which insurance makes sense
The European Health Insurance Card covers public care for Europeans. Travel insurance adds mountain rescue, repatriation, cancellation and lost luggage. For the Camino look for cover for hiking below 3,000 m (every Camino pass is below 1,600 m) with no excess. It costs €20–40 for two weeks.
If you come from outside the EU, insurance is not optional: an emergency visit without cover can cost hundreds of euros.
