History and what to see
This is Asturias’s most urban stage: you leave Gijón past industrial estates and green ridges. The reward is Avilés, whose old town keeps whole streets of arcades, such as Calle Galiana. By the estuary, the Niemeyer Centre, the Brazilian architect’s only work in Spain, adds a white, curving contrast.
