History and what to see
You enter Lugo through its grandest gate: the Roman wall, the only one of its kind preserved in the world and a World Heritage Site since 2000. You can walk its whole upper walkway, all the way round the old town. Inside, the cathedral and its squares deserve an unhurried afternoon.
Legends & tradition
Arde Lucus
In late June, Lugo dresses up as Romans and hill-fort Celts for Arde Lucus, a festival that brings the city’s ancient past back to life. There are Celtic and Roman weddings, camps and its own coinage; it became a Festival of Tourist Interest of Galicia in 2011.

City of the Sacrament
Lugo Cathedral holds a papal privilege to keep the Blessed Sacrament on permanent display, day and night. That is why the city’s arms show a chalice with the Host, a symbol later carried into the arms of Galicia.
