You leave Lugo by the Porta Miña, the wall’s oldest gate, and walk down the Calzada da Ponte to cross the Miño on the Roman bridge. Then comes a flat, easy day along lanes and hamlets of inland Galicia. San Romao da Retorta is a small hamlet: the quiet here is part of the journey.

The Roman baths by the Miño
By the Roman bridge on the banks of the Miño lie the baths that Lucus Augusti opened as the city was founded. The spring rises at about 44 °C and still feeds a spa today.
