The Pilgrim’s Pact

The Camino isn’t a theme park. It’s a living land, with its own language, its own culture and people who call it home. Come to discover, to share and to respect.

Six gestures

Six simple gestures, the same for everyone, wherever you come from.

  1. Living villages

Behind every window someone is sleeping, working or getting up early. Keep your voice down in the villages and when you leave the albergue before dawn.

  2. A language of its own

In Galicia people speak Galician. Learn a “grazas” and use local place names: O Cebreiro, A Coruña.

  3. Places that call for silence

Churches, chapels and cemeteries are not a backdrop. Step in quietly and put your phone away during Mass.

  4. Leave the Camino better

Carry your trash to the next bin, look after rivers and springs, and skip single-use plastic.

  5. The people who make your trip possible

Hosts, servers, drivers and neighbors. A greeting, some patience and a thank-you go a long way.

  6. Enjoy without imposing

Celebrate your arrival, sing and share. The square is also someone’s home: what you wouldn’t do at the Vatican, don’t do in Santiago.
