History and what to see
Tosantos, Villambistia and Espinosa precede Villafranca Montes de Oca, the last village before the once-feared Montes de Oca, a historic bandit refuge. The route climbs through pine forest to the Civil War memorial and descends to San Juan de Ortega, where the saint, a disciple of Santo Domingo, built church and hostel; at the equinoxes the light strikes the Annunciation capital.
