History of Hospital de Bruma
Hospital de Bruma is a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Mesía (A Coruña) and the end of the fourth stage of the Camino Inglés from Ferrol. It takes its name from a pilgrims' hospital that already existed in the 12th century, on whose site the pilgrim hostel now stands.
For centuries this hospital was the only shelter in a lonely stretch of hill country before Compostela.

Origins and the Camino
The history of Hospital de Bruma is that of a place that lived by welcoming pilgrims. According to tradition, King Charles I spent a night here in 1520.
Close by, at As Travesas, the two branches of the Camino Inglés meet: the one from Ferrol and the one from A Coruña.
Anecdotes, curiosities and legends
The small chapel of San Lourenzo, probably 16th century, is the heir of the old hospital chapel. In the early 20th century, when hardly anyone walked the Camino, a few pilgrims still slept here.
Local tradition says Bruma ended up as an island of Mesía surrounded by other municipalities when the boundaries were drawn in the 19th century: Ordes did not want this pilgrim stopover, and Mesía claimed it as its own.

Take a photo at the chapel of San Lourenzo and get your credential stamped at the hostel: you sleep where pilgrims already slept in the 12th century.
