History and what to see
You follow the Nervión estuary, once the industrial heart of Biscay, past shipyards and workers’ districts. At Portugalete stands the Vizcaya Bridge of 1893: the world’s first transporter bridge and a World Heritage Site. Its hanging gondola still crosses to Getxo every few minutes.
