History and what to see
A quiet stage of hamlets and rivers running to the sea ends in Luarca, the white town of western Asturias. Its harbour sits in a bend of the Negro river, among bridges and fishermen’s houses. Severo Ochoa, Nobel laureate in Medicine, was born here in 1905 and lies in the cemetery overlooking the sea.
